We have some exciting news to announce! HALO has been chosen by Heart of Canal Street as a signature charity! Each year, the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino offers a special bingo game, in addition to its regular bingo programming, where half of the total purchase funds go to non-profit organizations helping to improve the lives of children throughout the greater Milwaukee area. This year, Heart of Canal Street has chosen HALO to be a partner charity, and will be awarding HALO more than $30,000 this coming December.

We are so thankful to Potawatomi and Heart of Canal Street for their desire to support HALO’s mission and commitment to provide a pathway to self¬‐sufficiency for those experiencing homelessness in Racine County. Our Family Program specifically is focused on building good parenting skills, personal accountability, and a solid support system through family involvement to families experiencing or at risk for homelessness.

Children at HALO are given very special attention with a focus on good health and academic growth. Every child who enters the shelter is given a medical examination complete with vision, hearing, and dental screenings, and updated immunizations. Every child receives an ages and stages development assessment at intake into the program and can be referred to specialists for individual attention as needed.

For families in the Family Program at HALO we offer a number of services and resources that parents take part in as a piece of their Individual Success Plan, a plan developed in collaboration with a case manager. Parenting classes are offered at HALO and outside venues.

The Women of Worth program is one of the most recent offerings available to mothers in HALO. It is an outpatient program developed as a collaboration between HALO focusing on the unique needs of women, in particular, mothers and expecting mothers, as well as women who have experienced homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless. The program provides a safe, supportive and understanding environment for women looking to recover from substance abuse and trauma. Impacting every aspect of life, WOW focuses on developing the individual’s well-being, as well as the overall wellness of their children.
